Send an email to participants a few weeks prior to your PD session that evaluates their needs (Think Google Forms!). Then, you can determine the content and the structure of the content delivery that will allow for maximum growth.
About a week prior to the PD, send out another email with the agenda and the tasks that need to be completed before the PD.
(This includes reviewing any material- readings, videos, etc.- and creating any accounts necessary)
Along with your materials, include an actionable item. This can be a Google Form which provides feedback from the learner. Where are they at in their current understanding?
Strategies for Flipping Your PD
At the end of the session, have participants complete an exit survey (just like an exit slip!) that evaluates their level of understanding and the next steps they need to take. Use this data to follow up with them and create future PD to meet their needs!
Once you have reviewed the feedback that you collected via the actionable item, use it to break your learners into further groups or to plan on how you can differentiate for each group of learners you will have in your PD.
The day of the PD... Physically group learners based off of their feedback on where they are in the learning progression. This may include separate rooms with different facilitators if you have a large group. Then discuss, explore, and create!
