At South Junior High we take great pride in our comprehensive school counseling program. Our school counseling team supports students’ personal/social and academic needs while maintaining a focus on college and career readiness. Our school counseling team plays an integral part in supporting our school’s vision. The comprehensive school counseling program supports teaching and learning, and collaborates with parents, staff, and community stakeholders. With the support of a comprehensive school counseling program, our students are prepared to be positive and productive members of their communities.

WE BELIEVE...
All 7th grade students will create a six year plan with a school counselor during preregistration or enrollment.
OUR GOALS...

All 8th graders will demonstrate knowledge of A-G requirements. After a College/Career Guidance lesson, all students will complete College Board's "College Requirements Quiz".
All 8th grade students will complete the AUHSD 8th Grade Exit Survey. We will realize a 5% increase in the percentages of students who strongly agree or agree that a school counselor is available to address student needs.

RESULTS
Workshops are student-centered; Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) students guide peers and show them how to be better organized. By the end of the workshop, participants walk away with an organized binder and any additional resources needed to keep up their new found organization skills.

Eighth graders received lessons to prepare them for the transition to high school. Topics included: - HS grad requirements & A-G requirements; - 9th grade elective options - Info about career pathways - Sports & clubs - Online resources such as college board, Princeton review, californiacolleges.edu, Khan     academy, etc.
At South, there are a number of counseling groups running throughout the year to support students' personal/social needs Currently, students are receiving support on a variety of topics: self-esteem, career exploration, leadership, gang intervention, anger-management, coping with grief, etc.

Our partnerships above enable us to provide support and meet the needs of our students and families.
