METHODS
Online survey that include demographic questions, likert items, and open-ended responses recorded anonymously via SurveyMonkey.
2
LIMITATIONS
Limitations to this analysis include sample size, response bias, and cultural differences concerning survey research.
3
LEARNER DEMOGRAPHICS
492 post-workshop responses were collected representing 40 workshop sites.

94%
First-time Data Carpentry learners.
92%
Felt the workshop was worth their time.
Workshop Impact
Learners having low data management and analysis skills prior to the workshop are leaving the workshop with higher levels of data management and analysis skills. There is a shift in learner attitudes around research computing efficacy compared to before the workshop. Mode for those survey items increased.
5
"The instructors and helpers are very knowledgeable and the learning material was brought across very clearly. As a whole, the workshop taught me valuable tools which I will indeed apply in current and future research.”
“The workshop schedule was somewhat packed.” “Need a bit more hands-on time with own data to apply to newly acquired skills.”

Learner Attitudes toward Instructors
"Very practical examples and a wide array of examples are covered to at least set the foundation to use the program immediately and build upon skills outside the workshop. The instructors are very knowledgeable and currently use practices for their work which provides relevance.”
6
Data Carpentry workshops have significant impact on learners. Learners have expressed satisfaction with workshop content and appreciation for the caliber of their instructors. As Data Carpentry continues to offer more workshops, a shift in the perspective of how researchers view and use computational skills is sure to be realized. Data Carpentry will continue to improve and expand our community of data-driven researchers.
