Niki Campabello’s and Chrissy Lukasiewicz’s 5th graders at Pershing did a Novel Engineering and Design Thinking unit. They used the book LAUNCH to help guide their lesson planning. Students read the book The Snowy Day. They were then challenged to create a solution for one of Peter’s problems from the book. Students will be sharing their solutions with the world soon. Stay tuned!

In Jan Hebda's 1st grade class at Piper, students collaborated to write an informational book on animals using Google Slides. The book uses nonfiction text features and represents the students authentic writing. It includes facts, free to use photos, and an interactive Thinglink for each animal. Check out their book.

Student Voice Through Podcasts
Mike Saracini's social studies class at Freedom is creating websites and podcasts about their view on multiple topics to share their perspective. Mike connected with several educators on twitter to give the students feedback on their projects.
In Katie Suomi and Becca Siambekos 5th grade class at Emerson, students completed a geography unit with a mystery Skype to Bonnie McAuley's class in Venezuela. Students asked yes or no questions to determine their location around the globe. One student commented that she was nervous to talk to students in another place, but grew more confident with the help of her classmates. Opportunities like these help create global citizens by connecting students to others around the world.
