How can the effects of CTE be prevented globallly?
CTE
CTE or Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is a progressive degenerative disease of the brain that is found in athletes and others with a history of repetitive brain trauma. This degeneration is associated with memory loss, confusion, impaired judgement, impulse control problems, aggression, depression, and eventually progressive dementia.

Notable Cases
01
Ty Pozzobon was a star bull rider who tragically took his life in January of 2017
Ty Probert, dubbed the NHL's best Enforcer, passed away from years of substance abuse, thought to have been caused by CTE.
The first baseball player diagnosed with CTE, Ryan Freel suffered 2 severe concussions which led to him take his own life.
The main issue with CTE is that it can only be diagnosed posthumonosly. Now, there are tests to try to determine if CTE is present before death. In a study done at Harvard Medical School by Dr. Samuel Frank, M.D., former NFL athletes aged 40-69 performed nearly 3 times worse on motor tests on average, than men of the same age with no history of contact sports.

Congresswoman Louise Slaughter
Paul Tagliabue
Congresswoman Louise Slaughter of New York is one of these leading proponents of the fight for research in stopping CTE. She wrote to now former Secretary of Defense Ash Carter asking for the government to implement lifesaving technology against blast overpressure, but he failed to do so.
During his tenure as former comissioner of NFL, Tagliabue said the issue of concussions is a "pack journalism issue." He has since recanted these comments in hopes of getting elected into the NFL Hall of Fame.
CTE is an epidemic that plagues our society everyday. While there is a lot of research and time that still needs to be put into it, we are currently taking the right steps to ensure its undoing in the future.
