Letters to
Book
Characters
Materials: Pens and paper
A box decorated as a mailbox
Grades: All
Set up a pen pal system between older grades and younger grades. Younger students write a letter to a character from a book. Older students read the same book and reply as if they are the book character. Younger students use a decorated box to "mail" their letters on a monthly basis. This activity can continue over the school year with either the same or with new books and characters.
Why it Works:
- Encourages critical thinking about characters - Helps students write freely - Gets older students writing and mentoring younger students
