SCHOOL COUNSELING PROGRAM
OUR
We support  students' academic, social/emotional, & college/career development.

All counselors possess a California Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential that qualifies them to work with students.
These are the students of Galileo Academy of Science and Technology. The lion patiently focuses on the objective and charges towards the goal. Galileo students learn to work in collaboration through rigorous and innovative academics while being instilled with social justice values that are modeled by the Galileo community, values that reflect a devotion to the San Francisco community.

Through compassion, encouragement, and empowerment, the Galileo Counseling Team guides students to become LIONS in a safe and caring environment. We work as mediators at the intersection of students’ families, academics, and communities to ensure success for all students. We help students obtain an equitable and challenging education by using a student-centered and collaborative approach.

It is the mission of Galileo’s Counseling Office to provide students with the support they need to succeed in school. Counselors guide students towards substantial post-secondary options, including college.

We hope to provide support in the relationship between academics, the world of work, life at home, and the community by working with families and students.

Change in Beliefs
A core curriculum lesson on career exploration was delivered to 9th graders in their College and Career class. Students were able to learn about different careers related to their interests and abilities, add various career exploration tools to their toolkit, and start creating a secondary and postsecondary plan. Pre- and post-tests were given before and after the lesson to gather data on student growth in knowledge and change in beliefs.

Target Outcome Data
Giving students tools for postsecondary planning can influence course enrollment patterns and increase college and career preparedness:
  • Having a career in mind can serve as an external motivator, which can lead to improvement in academic performance.
  • Students with a career plan tend to take more college prep and CTE pathway courses.
  • Students who take more rigorous courses do better on standardized tests.
