Location: Iowa DNR Fisheries teams, statewide
Timing: Varies by position from 2-6 months
Qualifications: Interest in fisheries careers, valid driver's license, 18 years+
Areas of work: Aquatic Invasive Species, Fisheries Research, Fisheries Management, Fish Culture, Long-Term River Monitoring
Pay: $14.00-$15.00 per hour based on fisheries experience

AREAS OF WORK
Seasonal Fisheries Aides in the Iowa DNR's Fisheries Bureau perform a variety of duties, with some positions being entry-level, intermediate, and advanced. Depending on availability, positions may be available in the following sections:
Search for zebra mussels, Asian carp, and nuisance plants
AIS SURVEY CREW

Be the first line of defense against AIS at access points
WATERCRAFT INSPECTOR

Talk to anglers about their day and catch
CREEL CLERK

Sample fish and help in the lab for special projects
RESEARCH FIELD CREW

Every year of seasonal work with the Iowa DNR Fisheries Bureau gains you tangible experience, and we recognize that achievement through preferential placement and increased pay.
SOLID WORK EXPERIENCE
BEGINNER //
Don't have any fisheries experience? That's okay, all we need is your passion and willingness to learn! We have entry-level positions educating boaters, looking for AIS, and conducting creel surveys.
INTERMEDIATE //
Assist with summer field work in AIS species detection and management, research, and management, or try your hand at fish culture. Some jobs require extensive travel.
ADVANCED //
Assist or even lead field crews looking for fish and AIS, and perhaps even the opportunity for an independent research project. Jobs typically require extensive travel.
