Wooden Knife Holder
Engineering Projects
From Engineering Design 1, Engineering Design 2 and Engineering Principles
This project was my first engineering design 2 idea/creation. It was a Knife Holder. I chose it because I have a passion for cooking and a like for handmade wood materials. I needed a cover for my favorite vegetable cutting knife, so I decided to build one. In this project, I learned how to construct and execute a plan. I learned to use different machines. Most of all, I learned that the engineering design process requires patience, listening and planning. In terms of project management, I learned how important it was to plan for mistakes/failures and be flexible to change. In the Design Process the "Identifying a problem" part of this project was thinking of something I needed in my life. The "Brainstorming" was the idea of the knife holder, the "Design" were my technical & CAD drawings and the "Build" part was my work in the Steam Lab. After "Testing and Evaluating" it, I made changes and finished the product to my liking. Then, I shared it and started using the Knife Holder. Since this was a project for myself, I think it falls under the "Learner" Profile of a Graduate of ASD. It required me to be responsible and it's motivations were self-directed.

Wooden Painting Set
This project was my second engineering design 2 idea/creation. It was a wooden painting set. I chose it because I wanted to build something special for my mom and I know she is an avid painter. I've grown a passion for woodworking and I was ready to take on this challenge. In this project, I continued to learn how to construct and execute a plan. I continued to learn to use different machines. The most important thing I learned was that the engineering design process requires communication. I had to communicate between the client(my Mom) and understand her wants & needs. In terms of project management, I learned how important it was to stick to a plan and be flexible to change. In the Design Process the "Identifying a problem" part of this project was thinking of someone special in my life and making something for her. The "Brainstorming" was the idea of the wooden painting set based on her likes, the "Design" were my technical & CAD drawings and the "Build" part was my work in the Steam Lab. After "Testing and Evaluating" it, I made changes and finished the product to my Mom's liking. Then, I shared it with her to use. Since this was a project for my Mom, I think it falls under the "Thinker" Profile of a Graduate of ASD. It required me to be reflective(going back and forth my Mom) and critical since I was given a list of her wants and had to create a product that satisfied all of those needs at once.
Overview/Reflection
Mini Metal Foundry
This project was my third engineering design 2 idea/creation and I worked in a group of three along with Mannan & Harshit. It was a metal foundry. We chose it because we wanted to build something special for the school as a sort of senior gift. We all find this an interesting project as we think it had numerous applications. It will be useful for upcoming students in Engineering Design II as they will have more options for creating their projects. In this project, we continued to learn the importance of planning, collaboration and communication in order to construct and execute a plan. Along the duration of the project we had to communicate with each our goals and had to learn to work together to finish this in the most efficient way. We first started by all creating a group chat in which we could plan & schedule timings outside of school to complete the metal foundry. We met up at ACE Hardware Dubai, purchased all the planned materials and continued onto Harshit's house to start building. Overall the project "building" time took 4+ hours. It was a test of our patience, collaboration and determination. In terms of project management, we learned how important it was to stick to a plan and communicate between each other. In the Design Process the "Identifying a problem" part of this project was that our school doesn't have a metal foundry and as Seniors, we wanted to gift one. The "Brainstorming" was the idea of the metal foundry for the Engineering Design 2 students, the "Design" were the technical, CAD drawings & planning and the "Build" part was our 4+ hours of work outside of school. Our final "Testing and Evaluating" was comparing it to the metal foundry we used for inspiration. Then, we shared it with Mr.Remington and chose who to gift it to. Since this was a group project for the school, I think it falls under the "Communicator" & Contributor Profile of a Graduate of ASD. It required us to be respectful to each other, open-minded with each others idea, collaborative in our efforts and confident in our product.
