Reading & Role Models
Introduce students to community role models while creating new reading opportunities
Once a month, invite a member of the community to come to school and talk about their work.
In preparation for each visitor, work with school and town librarians to build a suggested reading list for the highlighted profession.
Ask each student to read a book about the job they are most interested in and prepare a few questions for that visitor.
Why It Works:
Encourages students to read about a topic that interests them
Can be easily structured/altered to fit your school's schedule
Gives community members opportunity to engage with kids
