How Can You Do Well in

Mr. Daniels' English Class?

1. Your Teachers

Your teachers are Ms. Semper and Mr. Daniels. Ms. Semper Speaks Spanish and Mr. Daniels is learning. They teach English specifically for students learning it as a second language.

2. Your ESL Classes

ESL classes focus on using English in everyday conversation and in academic situations, as well as writing and reading for different situations. Students will be reading fiction storybooks and poetry, making science and history projects, and practicing job interviews as just a few examples. Another good thing is that your ESL teachers will use class time to help you with work from other teachers as well.

3. Class Expectations

Students are expected to:

- participate in conversation practice online

- Speak respectfully

- Raise you hand to speak

- keep your camera on

- attend classes on time

- Focus on the lesson

- Complete assignments on time

- learn the big question of the day and the answer.

4. Grading

Quarterly report cards are issued to show student progress. Student work is graded and averaged in four categories:

Classwork/Participation in class - 35%

Homework - 15%

Quizzes - 20%

Tests and Projects - 30%


School can be a challenge. Working from home will be a different challenge. Mr. Daniels and Ms. Semper are here to help you succeed. 

5. School Expectations

  • Attend face-to-face sessions on Zoom are mandatory.

  • Login on time for sessions in the Zoom room.

  • Sign-in for each session on-line zoom room for attendance.

  • Participate in live sessions on zoom with teachers.

  • Put in at least 30 instructional hours per week online.

  • Check Google Classroom and Teacher Webpage for assignments and due dates.

  • Should ask questions using Google Classroom or email.

  • Meet with their teacher during office hours if you need extra help.

  • Have a parent or guardian email an absent note directly to their homeroom teacher.

  • Students are responsible to know their username and password for online learning.

  • Submit assignments by the due date. Late assignments will lose points at the discretion of the teacher up to 5 points per day.


  • Dress appropriately during face -to-face zoom class sessions.

  • Face-to-Face session must be free of distractions.

  • Cyber bullying, profanity and inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated online with teachers or students.

  • Policies in the CHS Student Handbook are in effect during remote learning.


Note: Class schedules will be mailed home and uploaded in Home Access Center located on Chester High School webpage. Students must have their username and password in order to access their schedule.
