Closing the achievement gap means closing the opportunity gap with wrap-around services to ensure that all children are safe, healthy, fed and have access to high quality teaching, curriculum, and welcoming schools.
Achievement gaps for most disadvantaged children begin before they start school and widen throughout their educational careers. The number of Maine children in poverty has doubled since 2000.
